Reiki - what's it all about?

Reiki for Horses.

Reiki is a non-invasive aid to healing, using natural energy which flows through the hands.  Some of the benefits of the treatments include-

  • An aid to healing after illness or injury;
  • Reduction of stress, pain and inflammation;
  • Enhancement of the body's natural ability to heal itself;
  • Eradication of bad memories of past events;
  • Can release pain blockages;
  • Problems treated include:- laminitis, strain injuries, stress, lacerations, behavioural problems, arthritis, past ill treatment.

Once treatment is commenced, many horses will quickly become very calm and start to relax. Visible signs will include lowering of the head, lip trembling and drooping eyes. I like to use the horse’s own stable with the horse on a head collar or, if this is not possible, tied up in a sheltered part of the stable or yard. The best time for treatment, is preferably when the yard is quiet, so feeding times or the time when turning out or bringing in is in progress should be avoided.

Treatment is very gentle and unobtrusive, and consists of the laying on of hands following a set pattern of hand positions over the horses' body. These positions are used as guide but may alter where and when it is felt be beneficial.  Quite often, I can sense when a particular part of the body needs treatment.  Reiki works whether or not the horse is rugged up, much the same as treating a fully-clothed person.

  • As Reiki helps the body to cleanse itself of toxins there can be a reaction, usually the next day after a full treatment. This is often in the form of the body undergoing a form of detoxification and may be shown by the horse producing more droppings and urinating more than usual. The horse may be 'light headed' for a short time after treatment. It helps if there is a generous supply of clean water which can help overcome this possibility.  The owner may see a change in temperament or behaviour within the horse after the treatments.
  • Treatment can last up to 1 hour.

Who am I?

My name is Cathryn and I have been involved with horses for many years- as a child, spending all my free time at our local stables and latterly re-introducing myself to horses.  I am a partner in our Livery Stables and Stud and own 2 native ponies, 1 brood mare and 1 foal with another foal on the way.

I have studied Reiki up to 2nd degree level and am willing to travel to treat horses within approximately 20 mile radius of Antrobus in Cheshire.  If you live further away, I can treat by Distance Healing.  I also treat dogs, and humans!
