2006 News Stories Fosshey Stables at 2006 British Hanoverian Horse Society Championships The Stables went with a select few to these Championships which were held at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre in Buckinghamshire on the 30th September and 1st October. We took Bea and River Rico as well as our two year old Wilhelmina (Millie) and Belisma (Bella) our 4 year old who we backed over the summer and schooled her in readiness for us to have a crack at her getting Elite status. This weather at Addington was the most testing with heavy showers and thunder storms, which kept all competitors on their toes. Millie (Wilhelmina) was on form picking up a third in a very strong class. The German judges were impressed by her movement and activity/athleticism. It has underlined our thoughts about her having a strong future.... Belisma had a good start to her day in the mare performance test, clearing everything that she was put to in the loose jumping. However, her inexperience of competitive riding showed through in her ridden test, which was a great shame as we all know how well she was going in her schooling. In hindsight we may have been a little ambitious, considering the short amount of time she had been under the saddle and underestimating the keen eye of the German judges. Overall Bella scored a 6.5 but she needed a 7 or over to gain the coveted Elite status. In working out her average she scored a 7 for her jumping, 7 for her walk and a 6.5 for rideability. We also picked up a third in the Mare Families class with Bea and her two offspring Millie and Rico. All in all we were pleased with our results, even though it seemed the longest day ever, with classes running 3 hours late ensuring we didn't arrive home until 12.30am!

August 2006 Yes we've been shopping in Germany and have bought six more fillies to expand our foundation stock. Two of them are already in foal, due in 2007 and you can see more about these in our 'Meet the Fosshey Brood Mares' section. We have also bought 2 two year old mares, to join our other 2 year olds as first time mums for 2008 and a couple of fillies from this year. Trying to broaden our blood lines we have carefully selected mares that move beautifully, have first class temperaments and have top class bloodlines in them, including Rubinstein I, Davignon I, Florestan I, Regazzoni, De Niro. It is an exciting time for the Stud and we hope to be able to continue the success we have already had to date. We took our 3 mares and foals as well as our two star 2 year olds Millie and Sophie, who, we believe have a great future as breeding mares. There were 4 classes for foals – Colt foals born before April 14th and those born after this date and the same for Fillies. This year we produced 3 colts so we were on parade from 8am on a baking hot day. Our foal, stable name Tommy, was in the first class as he was born early in April and he did exceptionally well finishing 3rd in his class. Our other two were both in the second class and Rico – or River Rico to give him his full name, finished 2nd and was only 0.5 marks away from being No 1. He scored a total of 49 points and we were really pleased with his scores, as he gained an 8 for Frame, 7.75 for Conformation and 8.5 for Correctness of Movement and 8.75 for Activity/Athleticism. His position meant that he went through to the overall foal championship later in the day. Our third foal – Felspar (Freddie) – didn't get placed but still managed to score a 7 for Frame and Activity/ athleticism, and a mark of 40 overall. So, what a great result, a second and a third in our first competition at National level with the foals. In the Championship Rico performed very well but was pipped as reserve champion and was placed third. We should say that he was the third highest scoring foal of ALL the foals (colts and fillies) and the judge did say to us that it was a very close call between 2nd and 3rd. Our two year olds both performed well in their class, with Millie (Wilhemina) was exceptional as she scored a total of 46.5 points and was especially strong as far as Frame - 8, Correctness of Movement - 8 and Activity/athleticism - 8 were concerned. We are very confident of her future and she certainly looks stunning....
St Pr St Dahlie was placed 4th in the Broodmare class, where mares were scored on their likeliness to breed a dressage horse. So all in all a very good day out for us, and one we are keen to repeat next year. Our next competition will be the annual BHHS Championships, held at Addington on the last weekend of September. We'll have to qualify the foals first but we're planning on taking the 2 year olds for another outing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- A Hat Trick of Colts! 26th May 2006 A full month to the date of our last foal, Dahlie gave birth to our third colt of this season. A beautiful chestnut colt, Freddie decided to ensure we stayed up all night with him as he took four hours to stand up and take his first drink! Since then he has made up for the length of time it took him to find his feet by ensuring that we all know he certainly knows how to use them - he's very lively and doesn't necessarily believe he has to follow Mum wherever she goes!! Both Mum and Freddie are doing really well. He was born at 2.40am on Sunday 14th May.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- Good Friday brings us our second foal of the year. 17th April 2006 Bea made it a very Good Friday for the Fosshey Stud and provided us with a really good looking bay colt - a very big bay colt. So big that we had to provide a little help to Bea in the delivery. She was 6 days early so took us quite by surprise, but with the weather being so warm that Friday, who can blame her! Both are doing really well. He was born at 11.05pm Friday 14th April.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- First of this years Foals arrives. 3rd April 2006 Lady has done us proud and produced a beautiful dark brown colt. He was born at 11.55pm Sunday 2nd April. Mum and foal both doing well.
Foaling Dates to watch out for... 22nd March 2006 This year seems to be flying by already and as our first mare starts to 'bag up' we thought we would publish our foaling dates, enabling those interested in any of this years stock and bloodlines to make a note to revisit the site to find out whether we have colts of fillies for sale this year.... Lady is due w/c 3rd April Bea is due w/c 17th April Dahlie is due w/c 24th April More detail about the mare and stallion bloodlines can be found under the 'Sport Horse Breeding' section of our 'Services' page. Want to know more please feel free to give us a call 01565 777621 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sad Loss as Belisma loses her first foal. 8th January 2006 Our three year old mare, Bella, who was in foal for the first time to Hilltop Rousseau, sadly gave birth to a still born filly this weekend. Her foal was not due until late April and from the post-mortem we have discovered that it has been an unfortunate accident whereby the foal has turned over inside the mare and wrapped around its umbilical cord, thereby cutting off its air and circulation supply. As the mare recovers in the coming months we intend to back her and get her out and about over the summer having put her back in foal this Spring. |
