BHHS Regional Foal Show at Fosshey Stables 2010

1st August 2010

A good day for the Fosshey youngstock. We had six foals to grade and brand, all of which qualified through to the British Hanoverian Horse Society Championship Show later this year in September.

San Lorenzo, our Sarkozy colt foal was the winning foal on the day with a score of 8.33 and Hollanida (Hoftanz x Donnerhall) came second.

We will be at the BHHS Championships on Sunday 26th September 2010 at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre, Buckinghamshire. Please come along if you want to see San Lorenzo and Hollandia in action plus a number of our other youngsters.

Fosshey Stables at 2010 BEF Futurity Regional Gradings -  Myerscough 3rd August and Alsager Equestrian Centre 27th July

This year we presented all but one of the foals at the Futurity. The youngsters are scrutinised by external judging panel, inlcuding a vet judge, under this British Breeders scheme.

To be able to enter the Futurity the horse has to be British Bred, or if they have a foreign stud book passport, the passport has to have been overstamped by a British Breed Society.

It is not a competition in the conventional way, as each horse or foal is judged on it's own merit and not measured against the other contestants in the class. You are going to the event to get experience for the horse plus also having them individually graded on their potential to go on and be successful in their chosen discipline.

To Myerscough on the 3rd August we took with us San Lorenzo, Rhiannon's colt, Barchetta, Delta's filly and Fleetwood Mac, Double Diamond's colt. We also took Fantasia and Fidenza as yearlings.

We were delighted with the results. All 2 out of the 3 foals came home with First Premiums

San Lorenzo scored a total score of 56.0 and an average of 8. Gaining an 8 for conformation, an 8 for his veterinary mark. He also got a 8.5 for type and temperament with the judges saying he was active, balanced and showed plenty of desire and inclination.

Barchetta – scored a disappointing 2nd premium of 7.89. She didn't help herself by showing very little trot as she found the freedom of the indoor school too much of a temptation not to go freestyle and show off!  She scored an 7.5 in her veterinary marks and for athleticism a 7.75, 8.25 for correctness of paces at trot and a good 8.75 for type and temperament. With comments of - tracked up and used hind leg well, she demonstrated a good deal of willingness and boldness.

Fleetwood Mac - a good first premium awarded for Mac of 8.22. Scoring 9.75 for frame and 8.25 for type and temperament and 8 for athleticism.

Fantasia - Scored a wonderful 8.86 and received a higher first premium and won the section as highest score for the dressage yearlings, by some margin.

Fidenza - Scored an overall average of 7.5, so a second premium awarded. This was a little disappointing as he has grown through really well this year, with a vet score and correctness of walk score of 8. He was highlighted as having a good use of his hind leg but being a little heavy on his feet in the canter.

To Alsager EC on the 27th July we took with us Hollandia, Dahlie's filly, Fabiosa, River Riva's filly and for one of our clients, a 2 year old Diorissima.

A couple of things stood out for us at the Alsager, the vet really liked everything we presented to her and made very few comments as to how we could improve on the way we were producing our youngstock.

Fabiosa - getting a 8.75 from the vet and an 8.75 for frame and dressage build. She then went on to score 8 for her trot and 8.25 for her attitude and temperament, saying that she showed herself to be bold, calm and relaxed. Overall she scored 8.21

Hollandia - started out with an 8.5 from the vet, she then went on to score an 8.75 on her frame and her trot paces, with comments from the judges of - good trot and use of back and good attitude, scoring an 8.5 for temperament. Overall score of 8.36 was very pleasing.

The two year old Diorissima scored an average 8.35 First Premium.  We were very pleased with this and she scored 8.25 for almost every section of the criteria. The judges commented on her good balance and rhythm, good hind leg and that she was bright and willing in her work, with an active and diligent walk.

So all in all good days out for us, we now have to watch out for all the results coming in from around the other regional venues to now see how we rank on a National level.
