2007 News Stories BEF Futurity Scheme - FINAL NATIONAL PLACINGS 2007 This was the first year that Fosshey has been involved in these gradings, but as you can see below, the competition is growing in recognition and size each year it runs. This is what the BEF had to say about this years competition: "Futurity reaches new heights Reaching its first century, with over 100 horses enrolled at the final regional evaluation of 2007, the Baileys Horse Feeds/British Breeding Futurity Young Horse Evaluations series has come of age. What’s more, with some all-time top scores being achieved this year, British breeding has reached new heights. With 100 horses enrolled in 2005, 200 horses in 2006 and 320 in total this year, the Futurity’s process of evaluating young performance sport horses and ponies from foals to four years to identify whether these equine athletes have the talent to excel and are likely to be able to withstand the rigours of modern competition, is becoming a household name. Says the British Equestrian Federation (BEF’s ) Head of Equine Development Jan Rogers, ”facilitating comparability between evaluations and making their objectives clearer is part of the Strategy for the Horse Industry in England and Wales, so these figures are encouraging and indicate that we are on the right lines in terms of encouraging participation and informing breeders”. The Futurity seeks to identify potential elite athletes as well as giving all breeders an objective assessment of their youngstock. Obtaining a first premium (over 80%) is an accolade, but a second premium (75% - 79%) is also very good and may mean that the horses being bred will make very desirable performance sport horses needed where the bulk of the market lies – the growing leisure sector" Within this programme Fosshey has done very well in our first year. You may have read the news item we released earlier this year when we completed the first of our venues at Osbaldeston. We have had to wait until the end of the evaluation series to know how well our youngstock have ranked - and they have ranked very well. Sanjula is our star - she won the Senior Foal Dressage section by a clear margin and was the leading foal right up to the last inspection at the Grange, where she was pipped at the post by a Show Jumping foal by 0.24% putting her as the Reserve National Graded Foal in 2007 over all disciplines. Sannazar equally performed well, coming second in his Dressage Yearling section, but sadly not managing to make the top three across all disciplines. The results as they appear on the BEF website are below:

We took Bea and Wie William, Belisma and Red Rousseau and Lady with her colt San Quintus for the Foal Championship. We also took along our yearling River Lady (Rowan) and Delta, a three year old who we are thinking of submitting for her Elite grading in 2008. This weather at Moulton was dry and warm, although a little windy, but luckily our stables were very close to the indoor arena, so we didn't have to walk too far with the horses for their classes. River Lady was on top form and proved to be our best performing contestant of the day. She won the Yearling class, winning our first piece of silverware as breeders. The German judges were impressed by her movement and activity/athleticism. It has underlined our thoughts about her having a strong future.... Delta was in a very strong three year old class and seeing as this was her first outing away from home and certainly the first time we have ever asked her to go in to an indoor school, she managed a very respectable fifth place. The German judge said that she had much to like but was a little reticent to show her true movement on the day. The colts class was very big and hotly contested. San Quintus just beat Wie William in the placings securing a fifth and sixth place respectively. The parade before the final judging proved to be just a little too much for most of the young colts and many of them including William and Red were showing just how high they can get off the ground if they really want to show off!! All in all we were pleased with our results, even though it seemed a long day, but a great close to our main showing season. They are all safely back at home chilling out in the field and just playing as foals do ;-)
River Lady in winning form... and Red Rousseau wants to play!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- BHHS Regional Foal Show at Fosshey Stables 16th June 2007 Another good day for the Fosshey youngstock. We had four of the foals to grade and brand, all of which qualified through to the British Hanoverian Horse Society Championship Show. We will be at this show on Monday 27th August 2007 at Moulton College, Northampton. Please come along if you want to see Red Rousseau, San Quintus or Wie William. Also of the six mares that were graded to enter the Main Stud Book of the BHHS, five out of the six graded higher than a 7, as an average score, and therefore eligible to go for their Elite mare status. The mares that passed today and are now all in the Main Stud Book are: Wilhelmina - in foal to Scolari Raffina - in foal to Weltissimo Rhiannon - in foal to Don Ricoss Demiguise - see 'horses for sale' section Darcie - currently with colt at foot and finally Delta, who we are hoping to back soon and definitely enter for her Elite test next year ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fosshey Stables at 2007 BEF Futurity Regional Gradings - Osbaldeston The Stables went in force to these gradings which were held at the Osbaldeston Equestrian Centre in Lancashire on the 26th July. We took 3 mares and foals as well as our star colt yearling Sannazar. To be able to enter the Futurity the horse has to be British Bred, or if they have a foreign stud book passport, the passport has to have been overstamped by a British Breed Society. It is not a competition in the conventional way, as each horse or foal is judged on it's own merit and not measured against the other contestants in the class. You are going to the event to get experience for the horse plus also having them individually graded on their potential to go on and be successful in their chosen discipline. We took with us Wie William, Bea's colt, Sanjula, Rhiannon's filly foal and Red Rousseau, Belisma's first colt foal and for his first outing of the season. We were delighted with the results. Wie William scored a total score of 42.75 and an average of 8.55. Gaining an 8.5 for Dressage Type, an 8.5 for his veterinary mark, 8.5 for Conformation, 8.25 for Correctness of Gait and 9 for Activity/Athleticism. Sanjula (Jules) – scored brilliantly well and decided to put on a show for all to see her at her best. As we let her loose to trot alongside Mum, she obviously thought she didn't need Mum to show her the way as she set about the whole arena playing and showing off! But this clearly paid off in the marks as she scored a 9 for Dressage Type, 9.5 for her veterinary mark, 8.5 for conformation, an 8.5 for Correctness of Gait and a 9.5 for Activity/Athleticism. This resulted in an overall score of 45 and an average of 9. Red Rousseau with his laid back attitude dropped a score on his activity, which you partly blame yourselves for as we didn't chase him up in the showing as well as we might have done, but we are still delighted with his ratings. Scoring 8's throughout all his marks with the exception of his activity/athleticism for which he was given a 7.8 score. His total score was 39.8 and average of 7.96. The scheme awards diploma's to the horses dependant on their individual scores. To gain a first diploma they need to score 8 and above, therefore Sanjula and Wie William both gained their First Diploma's, with sadly Red missing out on his by 0.04%, thereby gaining a Second diploma. Having said above that this is not a competition in the truest sense, there was still a Regional Award for the Champion foal and Reserve Champion foal in each discipline. Sanjula was awarded the Champion foal of the day and William the Reserve Champion rossette. After the comments from the BD judge two weeks earlier we were unsure about the marks that our yearling colt would gain. But we expected this to be judgeed very differently and it was. Sannazar was exceptional and he scored a total of 41.35 points, averaged at 8.27. Scoring 8.2 for Dressage Type, 8.2 for Correctness of Gait, an 8 for conformation, 8.2 for Activity/athleticism and 8.75 as a veterinary mark. The judge complimented us on showing a very nice modern type and specifically mentioned that he was of the correct weight and condition for his age. Sannazar was therefore awarded a First Diploma and was the Champion of the Yearlings Section. So all in all a very good day out for us, we now have to watch out for all the results coming in from around the other regional venues to now see how we rank on a National level - a further update will be posted when the final results are in. The last date of regional competition is 30th August. For more information about the Futurity please visit the BEF website. www.bef.co.uk/british_breeding ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fosshey Stables at 2007 British Dressage Young Horse and Breeding Championships The Stables went again in force to these Championships which were held at the Addington Manor Equestrian Centre in Buckinghamshire on the 11th and 12th July. We took 3 mares and foals as well as our two star yearlings River Lady and Sannazar, who, we believe have a great futures. We also took our 3yo mare Demiguise for some experience in handling, travelling and being in the show ring. This year we have produced 4 colts and 1 filly, to choose who to take and who to leave behind was difficult, but I think we made the right choices. It was the boys that were on first and the classes were big so they split the colts in to three sections. Lady and her colt San Quintus (Lloyd) gave a good showing coming 4th in his section. While Wie William, Bea's colt came in a very creditable 2nd in his age section, qualifying him through to the Championship. He scored a total of 51.48 points and we were really pleased with his scores, as he gained a 9.2 for Dressage Type, an 8 for Frame, 8.5 for Conformation and 8 for Correctness of Movement and 9.2 for Activity/Athleticism. We have not had a foal before scoring over a 9 and William had two! Our third foal, our only filly – Sanjula (Jules) – collected a 4th amongst a very strong filly class, which we were a little disappointed with as we think she is a stunner. But she still managed to score a 8 for Dressage Type and an 8.5 for Correctness of Movement and a mark of 48 overall. But overall a great performance and result for our foals, a second and 2 fourths at National level. In the Championship William performed very well but was placed 4th. Our two yearlings both performed well in their class. River Lady (Rowan) was exceptional as she scored a total of 46.5 points and was especially strong as far as Correctness of Movement - 8 and Activity/athleticism - 8 were concerned. We are very confident of her future and she certainly looks stunning.... Coming 2nd in her class she then went on to be awarded the Reserve Champion of the Yearlings Section. Collecting the judges comments of: "This filly is an exciting prospect for the future - classy and elegant. Can really operate!" Sannazar (Tommy) was disappointingly unplaced. The judge felt that he was "narrow and underfleshed at the moment", who says they don't encourage fat show ponies! Rhiannon (Sanjula's dam) was placed 4th in the Broodmare class, where mares were scored on their likeliness to breed a dressage horse. Her overall score was 48. So all in all a very good day out for us, and one we are keen to repeat next year.

Bea, as ever, is proving to be a doting mum and she is certainly ensuring we are working hard as she seems to think it quite fun to give us the run around in her rather large foaling box, meaning that it is taking a few minutes to catch Mum and baby in the morning before turnout! He was born at 8pm on Monday 21st May.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Third Foal of 2007 14th May 2007 We are delighted to announce that Lady gave birth to a gorgeous, dark brown colt.
