Archived 2008 News.... Fosshey Stables at 2008 British Hanoverian Horse Society Championships The Stables went in force to these Championships which were held at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre in Buckinghamshire on the 27th & 28th September 2008. We took Raffina and Winwood and Rhiannon and Diorissima for the Foal Championship. We also took along our 2 year old River Lady (Rowan) and Delta, a four year old. This weather at Addington was thankfully dry and warm once the morning fog had lifted and we were treated to the new indoor stables that have been built at Addington. River Lady was on top form and proved yet again that she can earn the stripes. Although she missed out on winning the two year old class. The German judges were impressed by her movement and activity/athleticism and therefore placed her a close second and awarding her the elusive 1a grade, so needed when you are looking at which mares you would take through for grading to be Elite breeding stock. It has underlined our thoughts further about her having a great ridden and breeding future.... Delta was in a very strong four and five year old class, one of the biggest of the day, with 11 contending this title. Delta managed a very respectable fifth place. The German judge said that she had much to like but thought she looked a little tight through her back and maybe didn't show herself to her best today. The colts class was hotly contested. Winwood showed us just how tired he was following his journey down and the night away from home, so sadly he didn't show off in the ring sufficiently to impress in this excellent company. He came home without a placing. However, it was a very different story for the fillies class. Diorissima, although looking equally as tired, did manage to impress with her clean limbs and strong paces. The judges liked her rhythm, conformation and her temperament. This all added up to Dior winning the Filly Foal Championship and then coming Overall Reserve Foal Champion for 2008. A fantastic achievement for the Stud and great recognition for our breeding programme. Overall an excellent day out for the stud and we were very pleased with our results. What a great close to our main showing season - the Filly Foal Champion. They are all safely back at home chilling out in the field and just playing as youngsters do ;-)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BEF Futurity Scheme - Final National Placings 2008 plus Results from the British Dressage Young Horse and Breeding Championships 2008 This was the second year that Fosshey has been involved in these gradings, but as you can see below, the competition is growing in recognition and size each year it runs. In 2008 in excess of 500 horses were evaluated throughout July and August. This is what British Dressage and the BEF had to say about this years championship:
The in-hand sections of the British
Dressage (BD) Young Horse and Breeding Championships
will become part of the British Equestrian Federation’s
(BEF) Futurity this year.
This brings it in line with the aims
of the Strategy for the Horse Industry in England and
Wales, which call for all sectors of the industry to
build closer relationships.
BD Chief Executive David Holmes said:
“The strategy asks the BEF to take the lead on improving
the quality and breeding of our horses and ponies and we
are pleased to work with them so there is a consistent
and evolving process for the evaluation of young horses
and the identification of talent.”
The Futurity, which is sponsored by
Baileys Horse Feeds, is now in its fourth year and
becoming established as the recognised evaluation system
for young horses and ponies with potential to excel in
dressage, eventing or show jumping.
Evaluations for foals to
three-year-olds will be held around the country in July
and August and the BEF Futurity Elite Championships will
take place at Addington Manor, Buckinghamshire, on 31
August 2008, the day after BD’s Young Horse
Championships.
BEF’s Head of Equine Development Jan
Rogers said: “The Futurity also seeks to identify horses
to be considered for the World Class Equine Pathway
programme, so that our top British-bred horses are
nurtured and developed to maximise their competitive
potential.”
From the 500 young horses assessed at venues throughout the country during July and August, only the top four scores for each age group from the various disciplines qualified for the British Equestrian Federation's (BEF's) Futurity Elite Championship, which was held at Addington Manor, Bucks, on 31st August. Overall The Futurity seeks to identify potential elite athletes as well as giving all breeders an objective assessment of their youngstock. Obtaining an Elite First Premium means that you have achieved in excess of 90%, a first premium (over 80%) is an accolade, but a second premium (70% - 79%) is also very good and may mean that the horses being bred will make very desirable performance sport horses needed where the bulk of the market lies – the growing leisure sector" Within this programme Fosshey Stud has done very well for the second year running. Both owners of these youngsters are thrilled with the results (as are we), and I'm please to say that both Wie William and Sannazar continue to be stabled at Fosshey, on the 'buy now take later' package. The results as they appear on the BEF website are below: “Top Fours” in each age group by discipline Dressage Yearlings 1. Rainmaker 2. Dan Dante 3. Catherston Sancy 4. Wie William Dressage 2 year olds 1. Farouche 2. Bangalore C 3. Hawtins Belladonna 4. Sannazar --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fosshey Stables at 2008 BEF Futurity Regional Gradings - Heart of England The Stables took one foal, two yearlings and two 2 year olds to these gradings which were held at the Heart of England Equestrian Centre in Staffordshire on the 12th August 2008. To be able to enter the Futurity the horse has to be British Bred, or if they have a foreign stud book passport, the passport has to have been overstamped by a British Breed Society. It is not a competition in the conventional way, as each horse or foal is judged on it's own merit and not measured against the other contestants in the class. You are going to the event to get experience for the horse plus also having them individually graded on their potential to go on and be successful in their chosen discipline. Equally this year, the best foals will qualify for the British Dressage Championships at the end of August. We took with us Winwood, Raffina's colt, Wie William and San Quintus from our 2007 stock and Sannazar and Felspar from the class of 2006. We were delighted with the results. Winwood scored a total score of 64.75 and an average of 8.09. Gaining an 8.5 for Dressage Type, an 7 for his veterinary mark, 8.5 for Conformation, 9 for Correctness of Gait and 8.75 for Activity/Athleticism. Wie William – scored very well. An average of 8.36. He scored an 8 in his veterinary marks and for athleticism, 8.5 for confirmation, paces and type and temperament and then a 9 for his limbs. We await the final results as to whether we will be making the trip to Addington at the end of this month, but currently he is the highest scoring yearling colt in the series. (three venues still to go) San Quintus although a stunning looking colt he dropped marks from his veterinary mark. The vet on the day felt that he wasn't at his best. But we are still delighted with his ratings. Scoring 8.5 for type and temperament and 8 for athleticism. His total score was an average of 7.93. The two 2 year olds both did well too. Sannazar scored an average 8.37 and Felspar 7.84, which placed them as highest and second highest scoring 2 year olds for their discipline on the day. The scheme awards diploma's to the horses dependant on their individual scores. To gain a first diploma they need to score 8 and above, therefore Winwood, Wie William and Sannazar all gained their First Premium Diploma's, with sadly San Quintus and Felspar missing out on an 8, thereby gaining a Second Premium diploma. So all in all a very good day out for us, we now have to watch out for all the results coming in from around the other regional venues to now see how we rank on a National level - a further update will be posted when the final results are in. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ BHHS Regional Foal Show at Fosshey Stables 2008 5th August 2008 Another good day for the Fosshey youngstock. We had five foals to grade and brand, all of which qualified through to the British Hanoverian Horse Society Championship Show. We will be at this show on Sunday 28th September 2008 at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre, Buckinghamshire. Please come along if you want to see Winwood or Diorissima. Also we graded in the main stud book of the BHHS our mare River Riva. She scored a 7.65 as an average score, and therefore eligible to go for her Elite mare status. So the mares that we have in foal for 2009 are: Wilhelmina - in foal to Scolari Raffina - in foal to San Remo Rhiannon - in foal to Don Ricoss River Riva - in foal to Fidertanz Bea - in foal to San Amour St Pr Dahlie - in foal to Stedinger ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fosshey Stables at 2008 BEF Futurity Regional Gradings - Myerscough The Stables took three foals to these gradings which were held at the Myerscough Equestrian Centre in Lancashire on the 1st August 2008. We took 3 mares and foals. We took with us San Sebastian, Wilhelmina's colt, Diorissima, Rhiannon's filly foal and Fernandra, Dahlie's filly foal. We were delighted with the results. Diorissima scored a total score of 66.9 and an average of 8.36. Gaining an 8.5 for Dressage Type, an 7.8 for her veterinary mark, 8.5 for Conformation, 8.8 for Correctness of Gait and 8.5 for Activity/Athleticism. Fernandra – scored well too. A total of 64.5 and an average of 8.06. She received a veterinary score of 8.2 and 8.5 for Conformation. With 8's for all other scores. San Sebastian although a stunning looking colt dropped marks from his veterinary mark. The vet on the day felt that he wasn't at his best. But we are still delighted with his ratings. Especially his conformation for head, neck, back and body where he scored a 9. Scoring 8.5 for type and temperament and 8 for athleticism. His total score was 61.7 and average of 7.71. The scheme awards diploma's to the horses dependant on their individual scores. To gain a first diploma they need to score 8 and above, therefore Diorissima and Fernandra both gained their First Diploma's, with sadly San Sebastian missing out on an 8, thereby gaining a Second diploma. So all in all a very good day out for us, we now have to watch out for all the results coming in from around the other regional venues to now see how we rank on a National level - a further update will be posted when the final results are in. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fifth and final Foal of 2008 Saturday 12th April - Saw the birth of another filly at Fosshey - this is now three fillies and two colts this year!
