Fosshey Stud at British Hanoverian Horse Society Championships 2011 This has become a major annual outing for the Fosshey youngstock and I'm pleased to say that yet again we came home with some silverware :) The Championships were held at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre in Buckinghamshire on the 24th & 25th September 2011. We took Bea with her colt foal Don Diego and St Pr Double Diamond with her colt foal Stratocaster for the Foal Championship. We also took along Hollandia in the yearling class for Susan Fox, Fantasia for the 2yo part bred class and Diamond Lil for the 3yo class for Helen Travis. River Lady was also with us to compete for her mare performance test on the Saturday and then the 4/5yo class on the Sunday. This weather at Addington was thankfully dry if a little on the cool side but as always we were in the big indoor school at Addington. The colts class was hotly contested. Don Diego was full of it and showed the judges just how high he could kick up his heels! Sadly he didn't show enough of his big trot in the ring, so did not do enough to impress in this excellent company. He was placed 7th. However, Stratocaster was favoured by the judges who liked his frame and freedom through the shoulder. He came sixth place in a strong colt class. However, it was a very different story for the fillies class. Hollandia, managed to impress, despite the judges being bowled over by her height, with her clean limbs and strong paces. The judges liked her rhythm, conformation and her temperament. This all added up to Hollandia winning the Yearling class for 2011. River Lady had a mixed day in her mare performance test. She had a tooth coming through (talk about bad timing) so was a little unsettled in her contact during the ridden section. Scoring ahead of all the mares in the class for her paces - average of 7.33, she unfortunately dropped marks in rideability due to this tooth! So narrowly missing out on her MPT attainment scoring 6.79 overall (needed a 7 and above). However she made up for it on the Sunday by winning the in hand 4/5yo mare class and also being awarded, a difficult to achieve, 1A from the German judges. A fantastic achievement for the Stud and great recognition for our breeding programme. Big thanks go to Tracy Fall for getting her to these championships under saddle, as she was only backed four months before we went! Finally, Fantasia bought home a First prize for the 2yo filly part bred class. Looking a class above the rest she impressed the judges with her freedom of movement, great frame and temperament. Overall an excellent day out for the stud and we were very pleased with our results. What a great close to our main showing season. They are all safely back at home chilling out in the field and just playing as youngsters do ;-) River Lady was for sale when we went to the show and I'm delighted to say that she now has a new home with Kate Slack in Hertfordshire. We wish Kate the very best of luck with Rowan in 2012 and beyond.
