Fosshey Stables at 2011 BEF Futurity Regional Gradings -  Myerscough 19th July and Southview Equestrian Centre 2nd August 2011

This year we presented all but one of the foals at the Futurity. The youngsters are scrutinised by external judging panel, inlcuding a vet judge, under this British Breeders scheme.

To be able to enter the Futurity the horse has to be British Bred, or if they have a foreign stud book passport, the passport has to have been overstamped by a British Breed Society.

It is not a competition in the conventional way, as each horse or foal is judged on it's own merit and not measured against the other contestants in the class. You are going to the event to get experience for the horse plus also having them individually graded on their potential to go on and be successful in their chosen discipline.

To Myerscough on the 19th July we took with us Don Diego, Bea's colt, Wishful, Lady's filly and Stratocaster, Double Diamond's colt. We also took Fantasia as a two year old and Doncherie as a yearling.

We were delighted with the results our best ever. Two out of the 3 foals came home with Elite Premiums and the filly attained a Higher First Premium.

Don Diego gained an Elite Premium with an average of 9.36. Gaining an 9.5 for conformation, an 9.5 for his veterinary mark. He also got a 9.5 for type and temperament with the judges saying he was light, athletic and uphill. They also thought he was brave, cheeky and fun!

Wishful – scored a Higher First Premium of 8.5. She scored an 9.5 in her veterinary marks and for athleticism an 8, 9 for correctness of paces at trot and a good 8.5 for type and temperament. With comments of - Good ground cover, beautiful head and neck, very elegant and correct movement.

Stratocaster - another great Elite Premium of 9.14. Scoring 9 for his veterinary mark. 9 for frame and 9.5 for type and temperament and 9.5 for athleticism.

The foals at Myerscough came a wonderful first, second and third for the day in the dressage foal section.

Fantasia - Scored a wonderful 8.5 and received a higher first premium and won the section as highest score for the dressage 2 year olds, by some margin.

Doncherie - Scored an overall average of 8.14, so a first premium awarded. We were delighted on Doncherie's first time out and she has grown through really well this year, with a vet score of 9 and correctness of walk score of 8.5.

To Southview EC on the 2nd August we took with us Hernandez, Dahlie's colt, Satriani, Rhiannon's colt and for one of our clients, a yearling Hollandia.

A couple of things stood out for us at the Southview, the vet really liked everything we presented to him and made very few comments as to how we could improve on the way we were producing our youngstock.

Hernandez - getting a lower vet mark due to his small frame we thought we were not likely to do so well, but Hal proved us wrong as we went in for the assessment. He scored a 9 for his walk and then went on to score 9.5 for his trot and 9 for his attitude and temperament, saying that he showed himself to be spirited! Overall he scored 8.75 and gained a Higher First Premium

Satriani - started out with an 9 from the vet, he then went on to score an 8.5 on frame and a 9 for his trot paces, with comments from the judges of - good trot and use of back and good attitude, scoring an 8.5 for temperament - comments of obedient and well behaved. Overall score of 8.5 and another Higher First Premium was very pleasing.

The yearling Hollandia scored an average 8.46 First Premium.  We were very pleased with this and she scored 9 for her trot. The judges commented on her good balance and rhythm, good hind leg and that she was bright and willing in her work.

So all in all excellent days out for Fosshey, we now have to watch out for all the results coming in from around the other regional venues to now see how we rank on a National level.
