Fosshey Stables at 2007 British Dressage Young Horse and Breeding Championships

The Stables went again in force to these Championships which were held at the Addington Manor Equestrian Centre in Buckinghamshire on the 11th and 12th July.

We took 3 mares and foals as well as our two star yearlings River Lady and Sannazar, who, we believe have a great futures. We also took our 3yo mare Demiguise for some experience in handling, travelling and being in the show ring.

This year we have produced 4 colts and 1 filly, to choose who to take and who to leave behind was difficult, but I think we made the right choices.

It was the boys that were on first and the classes were big so they split the colts in to three sections. Lady and her colt San Quintus (Lloyd) gave a good showing coming 4th in his section. While Wie William, Bea's colt came in a very creditable 2nd in his age section, qualifying him through to the Championship. He scored a total of 51.48 points and we were really pleased with his scores, as he gained a 9.2 for Dressage Type, an 8 for Frame, 8.5 for Conformation and 8 for Correctness of Movement and 9.2 for Activity/Athleticism. We have not had a foal before scoring over a 9 and William had two!

Our third foal, our only filly – Sanjula (Jules) – collected a 4th amongst a very strong filly class, which we were a little disappointed with as we think she is a stunner. But she still managed to score a 8 for Dressage Type and an 8.5 for Correctness of Movement and a mark of 48 overall.

But overall a great performance and result for our foals, a second and 2 fourths at National level.

In the Championship William performed very well but was placed 4th.

Our two yearlings both performed well in their class. River Lady (Rowan) was exceptional as she scored a total of 46.5 points and was especially strong as far as Correctness of Movement - 8 and Activity/athleticism - 8 were concerned. We are very confident of her future and she certainly looks stunning.... Coming 2nd in her class she then went on to be awarded the Reserve Champion of the Yearlings Section. Collecting the judges comments of: "This filly is an exciting prospect for the future - classy and elegant. Can really operate!"

Sannazar (Tommy) was disappointingly unplaced. The judge felt that he was "narrow and underfleshed at the moment", who says they don't encourage fat show ponies!

Rhiannon (Sanjula's dam) was placed 4th in the Broodmare class, where mares were scored on their likeliness to breed a dressage horse. Her overall score was 48.

So all in all a very good day out for us, and one we are keen to repeat next year.
