Stallion Choices for 2010

We have another exciting year ahead for our expected foals in 2010. We have had some exceptional quality foals in 2009, but clearly every year we are trying different bloodlines on some of the mares, which is what makes all so exciting.

The mares that we have in foal for 2010 are:

Delta - in foal to Barclay - a son of Belissimo M - Born 23rd April 2010

St Pr Dahlie - in foal to Hoftanz - son of His Highness - Born 4th May 2010

Rhiannon - in foal to Sarkozy - son of Sandro Hit - Born 27th April 2010

River Riva - in foal to Fabregas - a son of the fabulous Florencio - Born 25th April 2010

Bea - in foal to Don Ricoss - Born 1st April 2010

and we have a client mare whose youngstock may be offered for sale:

St Pr Double Diamond - in foal to Fidertanz - Born 5th April 2010

BHHS Regional Foal Show at Fosshey Stables 2009

3rd August 2009

A good day for the Fosshey youngstock. We had six foals to grade and brand, all of which qualified through to the British Hanoverian Horse Society Championship Show later this year in September. We will be at this show on Sunday 27th September 2009 at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre, Buckinghamshire. Please come along if you want to see San Demetrio and San Saluzzo in action plus a number of our other youngsters, including Diorissima, our Champion filly from 2008, we are going to see if she can claim the yearling title this year.

Also we graded in the main stud book of the BHHS a client mare Rosa Rica. She scored a 7.00 as an average score, and therefore eligible to go for her Elite mare status. She is confirmed in foal to Benetton Dream, which will be her first, so we are looking forward to welcoming her to motherhood in 2010 :-)

Fosshey Stables at 2009 BEF Futurity Regional Gradings -  Myerscough and the Heart of England

The Stud had mixed fortunes this year as we prepared our foals and youngstock for the Futurity gradings this year. Every year we have endeavoured to take all of our foals, however this year three out of our seven foals have had to stay at home due to slight lamenesses. Very frustrating as it is our only chance to get them off the premises (the BHHS show is held at home) and scrutinised by external judging panel, inlcuding a vet judge, under this British Breeders scheme.

To be able to enter the Futurity the horse has to be British Bred, or if they have a foreign stud book passport, the passport has to have been overstamped by a British Breed Society.

It is not a competition in the conventional way, as each horse or foal is judged on it's own merit and not measured against the other contestants in the class. You are going to the event to get experience for the horse plus also having them individually graded on their potential to go on and be successful in their chosen discipline. Equally this year, the best foals will qualify for the British Dressage Championships at the end of August.

To Myerscough on the 4th August we took with us San Demetrio, Bea's colt, San Georgiana, Dahlie's filly and Don Deliceto, Rhiannon's colt.

We were delighted with the results. All 3 foals came home with First Premiums

San Demetrio scored a total score of 59.0 and an average of 8.43. Gaining an 8.5 for conformation, an 8 for his veterinary mark, 8.75 for correctness of paces at trot and 17 out of 20 for Activity/Athleticism. He also got a 8.75 for type and temperament with the judges saying that he was an elegant modern foal with lovely topline. Major (his stable name) was the highest scoring dressage foal for the Myerscough venue.

San Georgiana – scored very well. An average of 8.00. She scored an 8 in her veterinary marks and for athleticism, 8.25 for correctness of paces at walk and type and temperament. With comments of - well proportioned filly with a good body  and a nice walk and good canter.

Don Deliceto - With judges comments about his calm manner and temperament, very attractive mover and well balanced foal, we would have hoped for a higher average. Scoring 8.75 for type and temperament and 8 for athleticism. His total score was an average of 8.00.

To Heart of England on the 13th August we took with us Fidenza, River Riva's colt and then our youngstock, Winwood for the Stud and then for our clients, Diorissima, Wie William and Sannazar.

A couple of things stood out for us at the Heart of England, the vet really liked everything we presented to her and made very few comments as to how we could improve on the way we were producing our youngstock. The assessment judges equally praised us for turnout and condition of our stock, praising us to the assembled audience about our yearlings being spot on in terms of weight and condition, as they said they see far too many youngsters over produced and fat!!

Fidenza - getting a 8.75 from the vet, we were then disappointed to only come away with a Second Premium for him, but when we got inside to the assessment judges, Felix didn't seem to be bothered to show us what he can really do! Therefore he only got 8's for correctness of paces and athleticism and 7.75 for type and temperament. Overall he scored 7.86

The two yearlings both did well. Diorissima scored an average 8.18 First Premium, gaining the Champion slot as the highest scoring dressage yearling for the venue. Winwood scored 7.86, which was a little disappointing, but as they were shown lose, the judges felt he could have been a little more elevated through the shoulder and wither.

Wie William just missed out on his first premium by 0.04%, having scored an 8.75 from the vet judge, the assessment judges seemed to love his walk and type/temperament but again felt that the trot and canter could be more uphill and engaged for a dressage horse - quite difficult to achieve when they are doing a show freestyle!

Sannazar really did impress the judges though and he did show elevation and cadence in all his paces, scoring a 8.71 and a First Premium he also managed to take the Champion title for dressage three year olds at the venue - very pleasing.

So all in all a very good day out for us, we now have to watch out for all the results coming in from around the other regional venues to now see how we rank on a National level - a further update will be posted when the final results are in.

Seventh Foal of 2009  - Sunday 31st May 2009

Our long awaited (12days late!) seventh and final foal due in 2009 was born at 10.40pm on Sunday 31st May.

Hawaii has given us a beautiful chestnut filly foal by Furst Romancier.

The foal has four white legs. The two on the back are up to her hocks with small fetlock level socks on the front. She has a big blaze on her face. She has instantly made a tall foal, so will be a big horse but very elegant and fine with it.

Both Mum and baby are doing well.

Sixth Foal of 2009  - Thursday 23rd April

Finally, we have a filly foal!!

Dahlie has given us a beautiful bay filly foal by Stedinger.

Georgie (so named as she was born on St Georges Day) has a white leg at the back and a small fetlock of white on the front and a big blaze on her face. She has instantly made a tall foal, so will be a big horse but very elegant and fine with it.

Both Mum and baby are doing well.

She was born at 21.40 on Thursday 23rd April. Only ten days late!!

Here she is just a couple of days old....

Fifth Foal of 2009 - Thursday 16th April

We were surprised to see the birth of our fifth foal - Riva was not due for another week and we were watching Dahlie next door, who was due this week, so imagine our surprise when Riva delivered her baby on her own!!

Riva has given us a beautiful deep chestnut colt. With two white legs and a star on his face he will certainly make heads turn.  He has all the great movement of his father, Fidertanz, so we are very excited about him.

Both Mum and baby are doing well.

He was born at 2.30am (we think!) on Thursday 16th April. We found him on his feet at 3.45am!!

3rd and 4th Foals of 2009 - come on the one day - Saturday 4th April 2009

We are delighted to announce that we have delivered our 3rd and 4th foals of 2009 with two more colts.

Firstly, Bea has given us a very big and beautiful dark bay colt from San Amour. With three white legs and a big wide blaze on his face and he will certainly make a big horse.  This is the first time we have put this mare to an S line stallion and we have not been disappointed - he has plenty of bone and is already tall, so will make 17hh easily...

He was born at 1am Saturday 4th April 2009

Secondly, just as I thought we could go to bed, Rhiannon has given us a beautiful black colt from Don Ricoss. He doesn't appear to have much white on him with the exception of a very small white star on his face. He already looks a carbon copy of his full sister from last year, our very successful black Don Ricoss filly.

He was born at 10.35pm on Saturday 4th April

Both Mum's and babies are doing very well.

Second Foal of 2009 - Sunday 29th March

We are delighted with our second foal of 2009.

Raffina has given us a beautiful chestnut colt. With three white legs and a big star on his face he will certainly make heads turn.  He is a half brother to Winwood (see 'horses for sale' page) and we think he will have a very similar build to Woody and with all the great movement that Woody has too.

Both Mum and baby are doing well.

He was born at 4.40am on Sunday 29th March.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First Foal of 2009 - Thursday 19th March

We are delighted with our first foal of 2009.

Wilhelmina has given us a beautiful bay colt. With two white legs and a stripe on his face he will certainly make heads turn.  He is a full brother to San Sebastian (see 'horses for sale' page) but we think he will have a little more bone than Seb and be equally as tall!

Both Mum and baby are doing really well.

He was born at 9.30pm on Thursday 19th March.   Here he is just a few days old.....
